Global data center solutions provider Digital Realty Trust has completed the acquisition of a 7,500 sqm data center in Sydney, Australia for $12.3 million.

Located in 23-25 Waterloo Road, Macquarie Park, Sydney, the acquired property is currently fully leased to a global provider of IT products and services on a long-term basis. The purchase price was AU$11.75 million (US$12.3 million).

Blue-chip tenant

"Macquarie Park is an established hub for high tech companies operating in Sydney. The addition of this institutional quality data center facility to our portfolio expands our footprint in the Sydney market, and adds a new global, blue-chip tenant to our customer base," said Kris Kumar, senior vice president and regional head Asia Pacific for Digital Realty.

"Along with our recently completed Turn-Key Flex data center at Erskine Park, this acquisition is one more step in our Australian expansion plans, demonstrating our commitment to this important Asia Pacific market," he added.

"The acquisition of this property is consistent with our Asia Pacific expansion as well as our strategy of investing in high quality operating facilities in key data center markets," said Michael F. Foust, CEO of Digital Realty. "In addition, we are very pleased to welcome one of the region's leading global IT service providers to our customer base."

Modular approach

Digital Realty's Turn-Key Flex solution is a modular approach to delivering enterprise quality data center space to meet customers' "just-in-time requirements." Utilizing Digital Realty's proprietary POD Architecture and supply chain, each Turn-Key Flex facility comes fully commissioned with its own dedicated electrical and mechanical infrastructure.

Digital Realty currently owns 110 properties, excluding three properties held as investments in unconsolidated joint ventures. Together they comprise about 21.2 million square feet as at 26 October 2012, including 2.2 million square feet of space held for redevelopment
