The latest report from Infonetics Research showed that in the fourth quarter of 2008, the IP edge and core routers markets were up year-over-year compared to the same period of 2007, indicating the general trend is still up.
But considering that the fourth quarter is a bellwether, Infonectics expects a slight dip in the overall market in 2009 before resuming growth in 2010.
The study also found that in 2008, Cisco maintained its strong leadership in the combined IP edge router and IP core router segments, although Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, Ericsson-Redback and Tellabs all gained revenue market share and ate into Cisco's lead.
