While communications service providers, in general, are showing more positive revenue growth amid the recession, those in developing and emerging markets are performing better than their developed market counterparts.

According to a TM Forum report, developed markets of North America, Western Europe and Asia Pacific have the softest growth for the recent 12-month period, with some registering negative growth, or flat to low-double-digit growth, at best.

Developing markets, on the other hand, have delivered a stronger overall performance, growing revenue by an average of 10-20% over the same timeframe.

Moving forward, companies who want to emerge as winners will have to combine fiscal caution with focused aggression along a strategic path, and not just focus on cost reduction.
