Ericsson claims to have deployed the world’s largest content delivery system (CDN) for a telco, with a rollout for Rostelecom in Russia.

The infrastructure vendor has designed and integrated a network offering data rates of 1-Tbps, with content servers in 30 major cities throughout Russia. The network reaches 9.5 million Rostelecom customers, with a total base of 28 million subscribers.

Rostelecom executive director and director for corporate and government segments, Olga Rumyantseva, says data speed and quality are now key differentiators for content service providers in Russia.

The CDN enables the telco to offer HD and 3D video while cutting load times and buffering. “This guaranteed quality of experience is especially important to content providers who want to ensure customer satisfaction and foster brand loyalty,” Rumyantseva notes.

Ove Anebygd, vice president and head of solution area media at Ericsson, says Rostelecom’s contract validates its work on media delivery networks.
