UAE carrier Etisalat yesterday became the eighth member of the M2M multi-operator alliance, a group of global carriers that aim to make it easier to deploy machine to machine technology.

Etisalat’s addition to the alliance completes its global footprint, by opening the door to the Middle East market. The carrier joins existing members KPN, NTT DoCoMo, Rogers Communications, SingTel, Telefonica, Telstra and VimpelCom, which established the alliance a year ago to break down barriers for companies seeking to deploy M2M technology.

Alliance members are using the Mobile World Congress to highlight its progress so far. The telcos are demonstrating SIM management capabilities and over-the-air subscription updates on tablets during the show, which the alliance states are key elements for manufacturers of mass-market connected devices.
