MediaTek will integrate the Expway Middleware in MediaTek’s helio Smartphone solution family.

This integration will enable the MediaTek helio Smartphone SoCs to support LTE Broadcast video streams, allowing mobile devices to receive HD video content and ensure “the highest quality of experience” to mobile users.

Expway believes that mobile video delivery needs an innovative approach to optimize mobile delivery of HD video from the content source down to every single device, efficiently and with similar quality as watching blue-ray video at home. This radically new approach is using a technology called LTE Broadcast.

LTE Broadcast is a 3GPP standard, proven to be most advantageous for delivering popular content would it be live or on-demand (season finale of a popular TV show, or premier of a movie, breaking news, sports, concerts).

LTE Broadcast doesn’t clog the network, no matter the number of receiving devices. This is exactly where other technologies run into their limits - LTE Broadcast picks-up where the others leave off.

“By merging LTE Broadcast feature with chip design, MediaTek will continue to bring premium mobile experiences to consumers,” said Jeffrey Ju, EVP and co-COO at MediaTek.

“In contrast to traditional delivery solutions, LTE Broadcast is designed to work better as the popularity of the content grows,” said Claude Seyrat, CMO of Expway. “Our partnership with MediaTek will provide an off-the-shelves solution for device makers and operators who want to satisfy user’s appetite for impeccable video.”
