F5 launches BIG-IQ cloud management app

F5 Networks has launched a software-based management product dubbed BIG-IQ Cloud, which aims to enable fast, consistent application delivery and network service across public and private clouds, traditional data centers and hybrid environments.

BIG-IQ touts an intelligent framework that centralizes management of the application control plane to provide scalable management capabilities for F5's BIG-IP product family.

Key functions of BIG-IQ-Cloud include:

Orchestrated application delivery and network services

Services can be federated across cloud systems to simplify management. Integration with VMware network virtualization is available to simplify application delivery and network services as part of a VMware workflow. The software's REST API enables integration of F5 technologies with existing management and cloud orchestration tools to create customized applications for infrastructure and resource control. Network virtualization controller vendors can also integrate their technologies with BIG-IQ via northbound APIs.

Self-service and automated service provisioning capabilities

Cloud application services can be rapidly provisioned for new users and systems within minutes. Used in conjunction with F5 iApps templates, services can be created and optimized to suit specific needs.

Multi-tenant monitoring portal

BIG-IQ Cloud's management dashboard enables status monitoring for applications. Administrators gain visibility in order to troubleshoot issues and isolate faults for analysis. F5 claims this ability is essential for organizations extending their applications into public cloud environments. Cloud providers can also differentiate or tier the application services offered to customers, increasing visibility into resource usage.
