Facebook is rapidly becoming as big a hit on the mobile web as it is on the PC-based net, according to new reports.

Facebook is the fifth most downloaded app in Apple’s US app store and globally the most popular mobile social network,

It ranks in the top ten in all the big US app stores, including no.1 spot on Nokia’s Ovi storefront, according to Distimo.

Mobile web visitors to Facebook grew more than 600% in 2009, according to the latest web traffic figures from browser firm Opera.

It said Twitter was the other big winner in terms of growth in 2009, with the number of unique users jumping more than 2800%.

Opera said its 46.3 million users viewed more than 20.7 billion pages in December 2009, 10.1% higher than November and up 223% over the previous December.

Opera Software co-founder Jon von Tetzchner said the numbers showed the divide between the mobile web and the web accessed on PCs was disappearing.
