FASTTAKES: Apple, HTC, Palm, Alcatel-Lucent

Apple is scrambling to secure content deals for its iPad tablet, which is due to launch in the US on April 3, said the WSJ Apple said it had sold “hundreds of thousands” in pre-commercial sales.

HTC CEO Peter Chou said the Taiwan vendor “will fully defend itself” against Apple’s claims of IP violations. Apple has launched a US legal suit against HTC for allegedly infringing 20 of its patents.

Palm narrowed its quarterly loss to $22m from $90.6m a year ago, but warned of a plunge in revenue following weak sales of its Pre and Pixi devices, WSJ said.

Alcatel-Lucent has announced new packet core solutions to help carriers manage the heavy growth in mobile data traffic.
