China Mobile leaps ahead of household names such as Marlboro and Wal-Mart to rank fifth in an influential annual ranking of the world's top brands, a Financial Times report said. The brand of the world's biggest wireless operator is now valued at more than $41 billion, the report said.

The popularity of SMS on mobile phones poses a threat to writing standards among Irish schoolchildren, a report from Ireland's State Examination Commission says. The frequency of errors in grammar and punctuation has become a serious concern, the commission said.

Samsung unveils its latest Symbian OS smartphone, the SGH-i400. The new smartphone i400 is based on Symbian OS and S60 which offer extensive language supports, enhanced download applications and multitasking features, the firm said.
