Google updates Android Market to improve app marketing
Google said it will release a new update for its Android Market for Android 1.6, which will enable developers to more effectively market their applications and games. Also, Google will introduce four new Android app sub-categories: sports, health, themes and comics.

Nokia to unveil new web and mobile APIs
Nokia said it will progressively introduce web and mobile APIs for its services, initially releasing the Ovi Maps Player API and the Ovi Navigation Player API to bolster location solution development across its smartphones. Nokia also will release the Ovi SDK beta, providing tools to develop applications for the web as well as the Symbian and Maemo platforms.

NAVTEQ Voice customized for Singapore
NAVTEQ has released voice phonemes for its NAVTEQ map for Singapore, which provides audible guidance using Singaporean pronunciations. NAVTEQ's method of transcribing voice data results in data that can interpret abbreviations, alternate pronunciations and other variants.


StarHub adds 2 news channels, Android-powered handset

StarHub’s 3G mobile post-paid customers are now able to receive six channels of “live” news from any 3G handset with the addition of BBC World News and CCTV 4. Also, StarHub will start selling on Sept. 19 the Android-powered HTC Hero, which features the new StarHub TV Guide that provides customers week-long program schedules and synopses.

MoVi, Corpus cook up 3G ‘mobisodes-on-demand’
Mumbai-based MoVi has teamed up with Dallas-based Corpus to launch a premium mix of video-on-demand and value-added services for the broadband 3G mobile user. Initially planned to launch across seven leading Asian mobile markets, the joint offering will be scaled up globally.

Conexus Mobile rolls out BlackBerry roaming plan in India, Thailand

India's BSNL and MTNL and Thailand's TrueMove have rolled out the Conexus Mobile Alliance’s mobile data roaming initiative for BlackBerry smartphones. The new plan offers a high mobile data access ceiling in most markets to cater to the data usage needs of frequent mobile roamers, translating to significant cost-savings for active business travellers roaming onto Alliance members’ mobile networks.
