HTCplans to spend $500,000 to set up an R&D subsidiary in China, which will develop customized handsets for the local standards such as TD-SCDMA.

NECsaid it participated in recent KDDI field-trials of LTE over the 1.5GHz band. KDDI intends to commercially launch LTE services in 2012.

Westnet, a subsidiary of Australian ISP iiNet, intends to invest A$5 million ($4.95 million) in an ADSL2+ broadband rollout in regional areas of Western Australia and New South Wales.

SingTel'snew high-tech investment arm SingTel Innov8 has made its first financing, pouring S$800,000 ($616,000) into mobile advertising platform developer 2349 Media.

Huawei has signed a five-year network operations and maintenance managed services deal with Vodafone Ghana.

ABI Research is confident the global market for enterprise and network security products will break the $10 billion (€7.7 billion) mark by 2016, after a recovery in 2010 saw the market grow 11% to $6 billion.
