LG Philips LCD develops what it claims as the world's slimmest TFT-LCD panel, measuring only 1.3mm in thickness, including the module, for super-slim mobile phones. LG.Philips said the latest technological advancement will enable mobile phone manufacturers to produce mobile phones even slimmer than the 6.9mm thick phones available today.

Yahoo plans to allow outsiders to create new services using the world's most popular consumer email program. Yahoo officials plan to give away the underlying code to Yahoo Mail, one of the crown jewels of its business, in a bid to encourage software developers to build new applications based on email.

DoCoMo unveils a portable, seven-inch 3D display system with Associate Professor Yasuhiro Takagi of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. Both still images and video can be viewed in 3D without special glasses, and unlike similar displays, the images are visible off-center vertically, as well as horizontally.
