Research firm MForum Analytics reports that mobile phone sales in Central Asia reached $525 million in the January to September period. The Central Asian counties include Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Verizon Wireless unveils plans to deliver selected video clips from YouTube to mobile phones in December. The firm said it is rolling out the service to increase subscriptions to its mobile media service.

Trade group Eurosmart predicts a surge in the shipment of smart cards all over the world, with vendors likely to ship about 2.9 billion banking, ID, SIM, and microprocessor smart cards in 2007. This will represent an increase of 20% from the current year, the group said.
