Palm unveils a version of its Treo smart phone, and a campaign to expand demand for the phone. Palm said the new Treo 680 will target the market space currently occupied by devices that receive email wirelessly, let users listen to digital music, and handle other features beyond voice.

Huawei plans to jointly install a mobile phone factory in Venezuela with state-owned CVG Telecom. The factory is expected to be operational within a year and is seen producing 1 million handsets annually, Huawei said.

China's PacificNet signs an agreement with China Unicom to become one of the designated value-added SMS providers for Uni-Info, a recently launched mobile information service to service mass market China mobile users.
