SK Telecom launches music service in Indonesia

SK Telecom, through its joint venture with PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, has launched an online music service called MelOn Indonesia. The service offers online and mobile users unlimited downloads and streaming of music on a subscription basis instead of per song.

DoCoMo, partners put up hybrid bookstore

Dai Nippon Printing, NTT DoCoMo and CHI Group entered into an agreement to establish a joint-venture firm named 2Dfacto. The new firm will begin selling electronic books online from early January 2011.

ZTE, SoftBank launch Android smartphone

ZTE and SoftBank are making available in Japan this month their jointly developed Android smartphone called Libero. Also known as SoftBank 003Z or ZTE Blace, the Libero is the first Chinese smartphone to launch in Japan.

eBay acquires mobile app developer

eBay has acquired Critical Path Software to help deliver popular mobile apps such as the eBay for iPhone app, and StubHub, eBay Classifieds and Shopping.com iPhone applications. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

KDDI invests $22M for mobile payment platform

KDDI is investing $22 million in US-based Microfinance International to support its global expansion. The partnership will develop an open mobile payment platform worldwide.
