Broadband equipment vendor Genesis Technical Systems has completed field trials of its DSL Rings network enhancing technology, achieving end-user speeds of up to 400Mbps over traditional copper networks.

The trials were conducted with US fixed line ISP Cincinnati Bell on behalf of the new Residential Access Carrier Consortium (RACC).

The RACC is a group of operators from North America, Europe and Latin America aiming to address the requirement for improved broadband in suburban, semi-rural and rural areas using Genesis technologies.

DSL Rings are composed of a convergence node on the physical network, a home gateway in each house and exchange gateway software monitoring all the rings deployed across the network.

During the trial, 12 local access routes were connected using standard copper cables as used by Cincinnati Bell in its network. The access network generated aggregate bandwidth of up to 400Mbps, while the backhaul network achieved aggregate bandwidth of up to 1Gbps.

The results of the trial at Cincinnati Bell demonstrate the importance of DSL Rings and the opportunities the solution provides for the members of the Residential Access Carrier Consortium,” Genesis Technical Systems CEO Peter Khoury said.

DSL Rings offers RACC members… a means to bring affordable significant broadband enhancements to customers currently receiving a limited service over their existing networks.”
