Going green made easy

Everyone's going green, from companies to individuals, but while many people get the concept of a carbon footprint, not many know how to calculate their own, or have the patience to constantly track the necessary data to do so, especially when it comes to transportation. UK startup Carbon Hero hopes to make it easier with a new software app to take the grunt work out of going green.

The app, Carbon Diem, works with GPS-enabled handsets and tracks how the user gets around (foot, car, public transport, etc). The app's algorithm gathers data on the mode of transport used and distance covered, and crunches it all into a record of carbon emissions in daily and weekly results.

According to The Guardian, Carbon Hero says the app - due out early next year - is good both for individuals looking to expand their eco-awareness and enterprises who want to measure the carbon footprint of their mobile workforce.
