Escort's latest GPS-enabled radar and laser detector, the Passport 9500ix, adds a safety camera database and technology to reduce false alarms.
The Passport 9500ix contains a pre-loaded database of red-light and fixed position speed cameras. When in the proximity of one, the device provides warning, including the type of camera in use.
The Passport 9500ix's database can also store new locations of a driver's choosing. Escort said it will provide database and firmware upgrades via its website.
The 9500ix determines its location through an onboard SiRFstar III GPS receiver.
The device also features what Escort calls AutoLearn, constantly analyzing all signals received to determine if they are false sources, such as automatic door openers and motion sensors.
The 9500ix will be available direct from Escort beginning in July. Suggested retail price will be about $500.
