GSMA elects chairman and vice chair

The GSMA has elected Franco Bernabè, chief executive officer of Telecom Italia, as its new chairman for a two-year term.

Bernabè's term will run between February 2011 and February 2012.

Jon Fredrik Baksaas, Telenor Group's president and CEO, was elected as deputy chairman.

In addition to Bernabè, Baksaas and Rob Conway - the GSMA's CEO - the board comprises executive representatives from 23 operators around the world.
