Government agencies and departments around the globe are rapidly moving forward with their efforts of converging voice, data, and video services onto a common IP infrastructure. The main force behind this accelerated transition to IP networks is a realization of the efficiency and cost savings from running multiple applications and services across a single infrastructure.
However, for some time to come there will still be non-IP applications present through government organizations due to the large installed base of circuit-based equipment and infrastructure within government and military networks. Looking forward for several years, many organizations will continue running parallel networks of circuit-based and packet-based traffic to help meet mission-critical requirements for both military and civilian personnel. The migration towards an Everything over IP (EoIP) infrastructure is occurring today, and Juniper Networks "Proven IP Infrastructure for Real Time Networks" product portfolio is helping to pave the pathway.
This paper will review some of the circuit-based technology being widely used within government organizations, discuss some areas to consider when transporting Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) applications over an IP network, and present how Juniper Networks Circuit to Packet (CTP) solutions can empower government organizations everywhere across their deployed IP networks.
