Huawei is escalating its push into health management devices with an aggressive rollout of its second-generation TalkBand product in Asian markets.

First launched at the Mobile World Congress 2015 (MC 2015) in Barcelona, Spain last March, the Talkband B2 health tracker is Huawei’s answer to the growing health wearables market.

Taking off from its predecessor, the TalkBand B1, the B2 now targets on-the-run business executives who are also the athletic types with a more business-like professional design.

Built for the multi-tasking individual or business executive, the device now comes with a Bluetooth earpiece which allows users to answer phone calls while working or working out. A user only needs to detach the ear piece to answer a call.

As most users now have two or more phones, the TalkBand B2 connects with both Android and iOS smartphones and can be paired with two devices at a time.

The device’s main feature, however, is still the fitness and health tracker, which detects and records different types of activities - walking, running, cycling, climbing or hiking - and calculates the amount of calories burned, as well duration of sleep.

Research firm IDC recently released a report recently showing that Apple is gaining ground as the number two in the worldwide wearables market with 19.9% share behind market leader Fitbit (24.3%). Chinese handset maker Xiaomi (17.1%), Garmin (3.9%) and Samsung (3.3%) rounded out the top five.

Charles Wu, Country Head for Consumer Business Group, Huawei Philippines, said during the launch of the TalkBand2 in the country that Huawei has something very unique to offer to the growing legion of health conscious and tech savvy consumers.

Wu cited a study done by Huawei showing that most wearable devices are used only for the first two months or so, after which users get bored with the device and not able to sustain interest in health and fitness.

Thus, the Huawei has put connectivity function into the TalkBand 2 to allow users to receive phone calls, listen to music stored in the phone. By pairing the Huawei Wear app from the Google Play or Apple App Store, the connectivity function is set.
