Huawei and ZTE together control around 75% of the fiber broadband customer premise equipment (CPE) market, ABI Research estimates.

ZTE also has the largest share of the total broadband CPE market, while Huawei is in third place behind Arris.

Total broadband CPE shipments exceeded 146 million in 2013, the research firm estimates.

Total shipments are expected to continue to increase through to 2019 on the back of broadband subscriber net adds and upgrades by existing customers. ABI expects total shipments to reach 154.8 million by this time.

“In many countries, DSL operators are committed to upgrade an existing network with advanced technology such as VDSL2 vectoring in order to provide higher speeds, ABI Research VP and practice leader Jake Saunders said.

“Technology upgrade is expected to drive DSL broadband CPE shipments in the years to come.”

Fiber CPE accounted for 26% of total shipments in 2013, thanks to increasing DSL substitution, ABI estimates. DSL CPE shipments meanwhile fell over 6%, while cable broadband shipments grew 2% to around 55 million units.
