The mobile broadband market is poised for explosive growth within the next few years. Realizing the tremendous opportunities presented by ubiquitous broadband is critical for operators to establish and maintain a future competitive edge. Both the demand and consumption of mobile data services are expected to grow simultaneously.

With a steady increase in the usage of smart terminals, Huawei expects the shipment of tablet devices to double by the end of next year, especially around the launch of Android 3.0.

The increasing popularity of tablet devices is also expected to encourage application developers to design new applications for smart terminal devices.

Technological innovations, particularly Web 2.0 and the development of widgets, have enriched mobile broadband services by improving interactive experiences and enabling traditional enterprise and Internet applications on mobile devices. It is estimated that by the end of 2011, an additional 100,000 applications will have been released into the market.

As a result, more applications will be based on cloud computing platforms, which will provide solutions that cater to a wider range of users’ demands.

From the operator side, high capex and opex, limited capacity and interrupted user experience generated by legacy networks will continue to present challenges.

To overcome these obstacles, operators should look to implement a flat, future-proof RAN (Radio Access Network) solution. Specifically designed to support multiple wireless systems via a single uniform platform, this type of technology helps operators achieve the convergence and evolution of networks for different technology systems.

The core value of SingleRAN solutions is to enable smooth evolution of multiple technologies into one “single” network through one deployment and one maintenance team. By doing so, operators can protect investments while reducing costs.

The development of the wireless industry presents telecom industry players with new challenges but also limitless opportunities. Joint efforts across the industry chain will create a brilliant and promising business environment that will provide all parties with the tools that are necessary to partake and benefit from the upcoming mobile broadband era.
