The first deployment of China’s home-grown TD-LTE 4G technology in Africa is imminent thanks to a deal between Huawei and Nigerian telco Zoda Fones.

Huawei is set to roll out its single RAN TDD LTE infrastructure in Nigeria’s capital Abuja and the surrounding areas, a move Deng Taihua, president of the firm’s Wimax TDS and LTE networks division claims is a major boost for China’s 4G.

“[I]t will greatly influence the development of LTE networks in Africa,” Taihua comments.

Zoda Fones president A Aliyu hailed the agreement as a “milestone for mobile broadband development in western Africa.”
