IBM claims its enterprise cloud service is handling 4.5 million client transactions per day from a customer base of a million enterprise application users.

The US headquartered firm also states the SmartCloud service is handling $100 billion in commerce transactions per year, as companies wake up to the potential of its cloud software and hardware to tap new markets and mobilize their workforce.

IBM made the claims while announcing new capabilities for SmartCloud enterprise customers, including updated service level agreements, upgrades to the persistent storage system, and the launch of a full pilot test of its platform-as-a-service scheme.

“Companies are starting to understand that cloud is more than just about gaining efficiencies and cost savings,” explains Paul Loftus, general manager of IBM global technology services, adding. “It’s about driving the kind of fundamental innovation that provides lasting marketplace advantage.”
