Organizers of Malaysia's first conference on outsourcing say that the worsening global economy will drive further opportunities to local industry.

According to Outsourcing Malaysia's chairman, David Wong: 'The current global economic situation will augur well for the local Shared Services and Outsourcing industry (SSO) industry, as corporations in US and Europe will definitely look towards SSO to continue remain efficient and enhance their competitiveness. This will mean more opportunities for the local SSO market and economy.'

Wong, who is also chairman of the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry, Malaysia (PIKOM) said: 'To ensure that the rapidly maturing outsourcing industry in Malaysia hits US$2 billion by 2012, Outsourcing Malaysia is organizing the inaugural Outsourcing Malaysia Conference 2008 (OMC 2008).

Outsourcing as a strategic imperative

'OMC 2008 -- to be held from 11-13 November 2008 at KL Convention Centre -- would bring together strategic thinkers and industry senior executives to share ideas and deliberate on strategies and programs to realize industry's growth, under the overarching theme, Outsourcing as a Strategic Imperative.'

In addition to profiling the SSO industry's strengths, Wong said the industry event (www.outsourcingmalaysia.org.my/OMC2008) hoped to attract senior management, decision makers and strategic advisors from medium and large companies, including multinational and government organizations.
