Inmarsat and satcom engineering company EM Solutions have teamed up to develop the first combined MilSatCom/Global Xpress maritime satellite terminal.

The terminal is expected to receive full Inmarsat accreditation during the second quarter of next year and will be submitted for Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) certification.

The terminal is initially being created for an Australian government customer looking to increase the operational capabilities of its satellite communications.

“We believe this terminal will be the first jointly certified system to enable automatic switching between MilSatCom and Inmarsat GX satellite systems,” EM Solutions CEO Dr Rowan Gilmore said.

“We are seeing a growing understanding within government satcom circles of the important role that commercial satellite communications can play in augmenting existing MilSatCom capabilities.”

The new terminals will use EM Solutions' Diamond Series Ka Mulitband Block Up Converters which will allow the terminals to cover both commercial and military Ka frequency bands.
