Inmarsat announced the appointment of Stream Communications as an Inmarsat M2M distribution partner.

Inmarsat said the appointment of Stream, which develops wireless connectivity for M2M devices, “reflects the growing convergence of satellite communications with existing GPRS, 3G and 4G technologies in connecting M2M applications worldwide.”

The partnership will combine Inmarsat’s GSM and satellite services with Stream’s connectivity solutions, Inmarsat said.

Nigel Chadwick, founding director of Stream Communications, said “satellite services must be considered a vital element in the M2M mix.”

M2M technology is typically used by utility infrastructure and transport sector companies, although growth is being driven by new markets such as health, security, smart metering and home automation.
