Khrunichev to construct Kazsat-2

(Satellite Today via NewsEdge) Russia's Khrunichev will manufacture the Kazsat-2 satellite for the government of Kazakhstan, according to a RIA Novosti report.

Khrunichev will work with the Russian Institute of Space Device Engineering, Kosmicheskaya Svyaz and Alcatel Alenia Space in building the satellite, which is scheduled for launch in 2009.

Khrunichev also built the Kazsat-1 satellite, which was launched in June and now provides broadcasting and fixed telephony services across Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and parts of Russia.
