Location-based check-in 'attractive but overhyped'

The buzz on check-in services is tipping into hype and creating a bandwagon effect that could undermine such services before they have had a chance to really take off, Ovum warns in a new research.

“We are witnessing a mobile social commerce gold rush but many of the companies coming to the market are doing so with ‘me too’ propositions,” said principal analyst Eden Zoller.

The wide availability of such undifferentiated services and growing competition could create fall-out, Zoller added.
