GPS device maker LongView Advantage will use satellite-based machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions from Numerex.

Longview agreed to become a value-added reseller and will add Numerex's SX1 device to its satellite product suite, under the name 'Advantage SX1'.

Longview Advantage integrates GPS, Internet and cellular technologies to deliver innovative solutions for theft protection and recovery, fleet management, and asset tracking.

Longview said the ability to monitor engine-run time was a key factor in its decision to resell Numerex solutions.

This capability will advance the screening of hours that equipment is used as well as provide alerts for regular maintenance and inspection -- decreasing the chance of unanticipated costs or breakdowns in valuable assets, the company said..

Satellite-based devices add value to asset tracking, protection, and location as well as provide reliable information that enables customers to easily manage their equipment maintenance schedules, said Longview's president Bill Quince.
