Singapore’s M1 has contracted Huawei to expand and upgrade its 3G network in a deal valued at S$11 million ($8.7 million).

Huawei will expand the coverage of M1’s existing 2100-MHz 3G network to islandwide by deploying additional base stations and optimizing the 3G network to improve call connectivity and customer experience.

The project also complements the recent investment to roll out a 3G radio network on the 900-MHz band and modernize its core network, M1 said.

The network expansion work is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of this year. Upon the completion, M1 will have a comprehensive 3G network coverage to deliver better performance for customers and meet their growing data usage.
