MobileOne (M1) is adding IP capabilities to its 2G network as part of a network modernization initiative that will enable it to roll out high-speed mobile broadband services.

Nokia Siemens Networks will undertake the modernization project, which is expected to be complete by 2011.

The upgrade to an all-IP network is an important step for M1 in its move towards Long Term Evolution, and will provide a smooth transition path to 4G.

M1 CEO Karen Kooi said the introduction of the latest radio technology will also allow the company to use and manage its energy and spectrum resources more efficiently.
