Hotgate Technology is rolling out a free public WiFi network in the island state of Penang.
The company said it is working closely with the local government under the "Penang Free WiFi" project, also partnering with REDtone Communications.
Hotgate said it will design, build, own, operate and maintain a WiFi network made up of approximately 750 wireless access points linked by a combination of ADSL and Wimax, with WiFi as the last-mile.
The project is expected to be completed within 15 months and will cover public areas in Penang including parks, libraries, bus terminals, train stations and community centers.
