Maxis, Malaysia's integrated communications services provider, has become the country’s first telco to introduce cloud computing service through its Cyberkids with Cloud program at four selected schools in rural Malaysia.
Maxis developed the Cyberkids with Cloud program as a computing platform for schools to have instant access to virtual servers for the running of web-based applications.
The program frees schools from operating, maintaining and supporting servers and related hardware and each school will be given free access to a cloud computing platform with 20GB storage with 100mbps bandwidth for a period of one year, the company said in a statement.
Maxis said this is the first telco-education collaboration on cloud computing in Malaysia, and the deployment of the Maxis Cyberkids with Cloud program encourages the integration of ICT in education as part of the daily teaching and learning process.
“The program can boost the efficiency and productivity of both teachers and students through greater flexibility to experiment with newer apps and platforms.
It also further exemplifies the company's integrated position by enabling education that is available anytime and anywhere for teachers and students, Maxis added.
The Maxis Cyberkids with Cloud program is an extension of Maxis' awarding Maxis Cyberkids program which has entered its 10th year. It supports the government's effort towards Vision 2020 - to transform the Malaysian education system by integrating ICT into mainstream education.
