Altair Semiconductor's ALT2150 mobile Wimax processor is designed for lower battery power consumption in handsets and other mobile devices.

The chip uses a proprietary, highly-programmable Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) processor (codenamed O2P), rather than the conventional communications Digital Signal Processor (DSP).

According to Altair, an ALT2150-based handheld device consumes less power than an equivalent HSDPA or EVDO solution.
