Mobitel, a wholly subsidiary of Sir Lanka Telecom, has tapped ZTE and Huawei to expand its mobile network in the country.

Mobitel CEO Lalith De Silva said ZTE earlier had completed the build-out of 2G and 3G base stations at over 1,000 sites.

“The next major development in our technological footprint through this new expansion will be the introduction of the LTE standard,” he said in statement.

Its second deal Mobitel has contracted Huawei to renovate and expand its network capacity in Sri Lanka's capital Colombo, Galle and Matara.

The companies did not reveal the size of the contract.
