Motorola announced its third Wimax project in Taiwan with a planned deployment by First International Telecom (Fitel).
Fitel is looking to complete and start testing Wimax base stations in the downtown area of Taipei by the first half of this year, according to Motorola.
Fitel was granted license to provide Wimax services for northern Taiwan in July 2007.
The deployment represents Fitel's participation in the M-Taiwan project, a government initiative to accelerate Wimax development to support wireless broadband services in the country.
It is also third Wimax project in Taiwan announced by Motorola in the past eight months.
Fitel already provides mobile communications services via its PHS network to more than a million subscribers in Taiwan.
