Japan's NEC said it has finished pre-testing for Wave 2 certification from M-Taiwan and Wimax Forum.
NEC said it provided Wimax base station systems and subscriber terminals to ADT (Advance Data Technology Corporation), the certification body designated by the Taiwanese Wimax Forum.
Wave 2 certification is an essential requirement for both the Wimax Forum and M-Taiwan technologies to assure performance of Wimax systems. In August 2007, Wimax commercial licenses were issued to six operators in Taiwan.
By obtaining certification, NEC is looking to support Taiwanese operators deploying Wimax.
In December 2007, NEC said it received an order from Tatung InfoComm' for Wimax equipment including base stations and peripheral equipment.
NEC added its Hua-Lien Wimax system was successfully evaluated by Taiwan's Industrial Development Bureau, and was subsequently implemented by six commercial Wimax operators.
NEC said it will continue supporting contributions to M-Taiwan's Wave 2 certification in order to encourage local industries to play a greater role in Taiwan's development of Wimax Forum.
