This report explores network impacts associated with virtualization of small cell base stations.
The approach is to evolve the NFV concepts that have been used to propose a virtualized small cell core network defined in SCF154: ‘Virtualization in Small Cell networks’ and apply those concepts to virtualization of the small cell base station functions.
Only 4G (LTE) small cell base stations are considered.
