Diversified conglomerate Smart Global has launched the Smart Living program, an initiative to deliver health solutions in the Indian capital of New Delhi, which aims to become a “smart health city.”

The initiative is centred around Delhi's Saket City Hospital, and will see around $250 million invested in the facility, which will become a 1000 bed hospital as part of the project.

Dr B K Modi, chairman of Smart Global, said the Smart Health City concept was based around adopting a holistic approach to disease through both curative and intervention strategies. It will combine services such as meditation, yoga, and stress management with more technology based medicine such as stem cell therapy and wearable health devices.

The facilities and services will be offered by practitioners with links to the Smart Health City project through exclusive tie-ups and partnerships. The Smart Health City itself will house a range of facilities such as an alternative medicine block, convention center, education and training centers and a research and testing center.

The site at Saket in South Delhi is spread over an area of 15 acres and is expected to be completed by 2017 at the latest. Jones Lang La Salle has been appointed the infrastructure partners for the project.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Pervez Ahmed, the director of the Saket City Hospital said that the project aimed to create a benchmark for telemedicine and clinical research.

"Saket City Hospital and Smart Living will be leading pioneers for all cutting edge technology in the healthcare segment," Dr Ahmed said.
