Nokia Siemens Networks claims a new TD-LTE radio frequency module offers a 50% improvement in coverage compared to products from rival vendors.
The firm’s new four pipes module is designed for its Flexi Multiradio 10 base station, and is claimed to deliver 50% more transmit power than comparable products from its rivals. NSN plans to unveil the module at the CTIA Wireless show next week, with a commercial launch scheduled for the back half of the year.
NSN also plans to demonstrate world leading LTE data rates of close to 1-Gbps during the show – a move LTE division head Tommi Uitto says will highlight the ability of the technology to “deliver unprecedented mobile broadband speeds.”
The firm is also preparing to launch new 4G devices, in the form of a USB dongle, a mobile hotspot router, and a wireless modem for residential use.
Separately, NSN has revealed a planned sale of its microwave transport business to DragonWave has been amended to exclude Nokia Siemens staff in Italy from transferring to the new firm once the deal is completed. The pair has, instead, agreed a service deal that will see NSN supply R&D, product management and sales support to DragonWave.
NSN agreed to sell the business to DragonWave for around €15 million ($19.7 million) in cash and stock in December.
