Nokia Siemens has secured another high-profile partner for its Liquid Applications edge RAN platform. The company has signed a co-operation agreement with Intel.

The two companies announced they will collaborate on the development of a mobile edge computing ecosystem, to support the growing trend of reducing strain on the mobile packet core by placing applications and services directly in the base station.

The partnership will focus on OTT providers, ISVs and application services providers, and will also explore new business models between mobile operators and other ecosystem players.

NSN is already working with IBM to embed application hosting servers into its Liquid Applications base station design.

The server technology underpinning Liquid Applications - NSN's Radio Applications Cloud Server - uses Intel's Crystal Forest base station platform.
