Operators all eyes on ODN

As bandwidth-hungry services and terminals are emerging in our network, end users are taking to 10M, 20M and 100M service packages, prompting operators to improve their broadband access network. Most global operators choose the FTTH solution for the im-provement due to its positive features such as huge bandwidth, excellent flexibility, scala-bility and high reliability.

Optical Distribution Network (ODN), as the infrastructure of FTTH, becomes the primary concern of these operators during network deployment. Operators have never faced so many difficulties in other technologies deployment as with ODN.

Yet, compared to other telecom equipment, ODN has simpler technologies. It is easy to learn and start the business. So, with the FTTH market increasingly hot day by day, the number of ODN suppliers in the world is increasing, currently there are over 200 suppliers. On the other hand, operators are concerned on how to choose the most cost-effective ODN product, judge supplier’s capability and product quality, and avoid selecting cheap but poor products.

Operators also need to consider the supplier’s R&D ability for next-generation solutions. Except for ODN product purchase, the turnkey mode is very popular in many countries or regions such as Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

The biggest advantage of turnkey is that the operator needs to deal with only one supplier or contractor. Thus, the time and human resource and money for coordination could be largely saved.

To address these challenges, FiberHome has developed its capacity as a service provider to more than 100 global operators in around 40 countries.

FiberHome has long-term R&D planning and investment for new technologies. It firstly released AAWG, 1x128 and 1x256 PLC splitter chip in China and commercially deployed Smart ODN solution in the country. The smart ODN system passed the test in Singapore in the third quarter of 2014.

In order to control ODN product quality, FiberHome imported many internationally recog-nized testing devices to realize the strictest quality control inspection. All the product series have been tested and certified by third-party international and Chinese-authorized quality inspection organizations.

Moreover, for the ODN production line, FiberHome has an entire quality control monitoring and management mechanism. All the QC data will be recorded and restored for five years in database to ensure the traceability in the future.

Because of the independent R&D and manufacturing capability, based on many years’ ODN Turn-key experience, FiberHome is also able to balance the top quality and reason-able cost.

Further, FiberHome can provide consultancy and general network design to operators in initial phase of deployment, and also can provide the professional detailed design in im-plementation phase.
