More service providers will use optical transport network switching for packet-optical transport system (P-OTS) equipment than support for legacy TDM in the metro and the core networks, according to a survey by Infonetics Research.

All respondents said they plan to use 40G/100G interfaces in the core network, and some plan to use these speeds in the metro as well.

“P-OTS will be the bedrock of future optical networks,” said analyst Andrew Schmitt.
