A partnership between BT Asia Pacific and network technology provider Riverbed enables enterprises to leverage improved wide area network performance to aid and maximize the value of consolidation efforts and bolster service delivery across business critical applications.

Data center consolidation, greater branch office networking demands and ever bandwidth hungry applications are driving the need for optimized network services to ensure performance levels are maintained at mission-critical quality and availability levels. BT has now successfully sold and implemented managed service solutions based on Riverbed Technology's Steelhead Wide area Data Services (WDS) products to its clients in Hong Kong, Korea and India. BT is now enjoying a huge increase in customer interest and demand for BT's Riverbed based managed services throughout Asia-Pacific.

Riverbed products provide businesses with the capability to accelerate application performance across the wide-area network (WAN) with increases in speed typically between 5 and 50 times, with "ËœLAN like' access for both fixed and mobile users.

To facilitate the sale and ongoing support of Riverbed based solutions, BT has trained well over 100 of its sales staff located across the Asia-Pacific region. BT has also deployed a demonstration facility in Singapore, with several other cities across Asia to join later to form what is believed to be the region's first multi-site, multi-application, MPLS demo facility for Riverbed based WDS services.

Working closely with Riverbed's Professional Services group, BT has now deployed Riverbed appliances for its first wave of clients in over 30 cities in 14 countries globally. These clients include one of the world's largest beverage companies, a leading financial institution and an Indian software developer. These customers have already been able to use BT managed solutions based on Riverbed technology to achieve a number of critical objectives. These include enabling consolidation of data center services from North Asia into a Shanghai data center; over-coming performance issues which occurred following an earlier centralisation of MS Exchange servers into a small number of global hub sites; and faster delivery of content and improved applications performance.

"We are excited that throughout our rollout, the Riverbed products delivered exactly as promised. Application performance was termed as nothing less than "extraordinary" by our customers with scalability and simplicity being second to none" said Kevin Taylor, Chief Operating Officer of BT Global Services in Asia.

Mr. Taylor added, "we see a major role for Riverbed products in our portfolio of managed service propositions which cover a broad range of core business areas including improving client operational efficiency, business continuity/sustainability, collaboration and mobility/home working. Riverbed gives us the ability to delivery better Business Outcomes to our clients in all of these areas".
