Ericsson files legal blitz at Apple, seeks ITC ban

Ericsson is escalating its patent battle against Apple, filing seven new lawsuits in the US and a complaint with the nation's International Trade Commission seeking to block Apple products in the US. The lawsuits accuse Apple of violating up to 41 Ericsson patents covering areas including core communications functions, user interfaces and operating system design, Bloombergreported. Ericsson claims tat Apple has refused to license the IP on reasonable terms since an existing license expired in January. Apple is challenging whether Ericsson's royalty demands are fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND).

Indian govt expects $7b in telco sector revenue for FY16

The Indian government has revealed it expects to raise around $7 billion in revenue from the telecom sector during the 2016 financial year, partly due to the expected windfall from spectrum auctions including the one planned for this month. The government expects to raise more than $13 billion from the latest round of spectrum auctions, according to the Economic Times, including $3.5 billion during the 2015 financial year ending in March. The remainder is set to be raised during the next financial year, and annual fees from operators will also contribute to the budget.

Thai 4G auctions on track for September: deputy PM

The Thai government has insisted that the nation's planned 4G auctions are on track to take place before September, despite assertions from regulator NBTC that it will take until at least December. Deputy prime minister Pridiyathorn Devakula told a seminar in Bangkok that it will not be necessary to postpone the auctions and that the allocation will “definitely” take place before September, the Bangkok Post said. A decision on the details of the planned auctions will be made this month, and it will take around four months to complete the preparatory process, he said.
