Malaysia's Packet One Networks (P1) has inked a deal to allow it to use incumbent Telekom Malaysia's fiber network to offer services to its customers.
The deal will give P1 access to the over 1 million homes covered by Telekom Malaysia's HSBB network, The Star Onlinereported.
P1 plans to roll out services incorporating the network in the first quarter of next year. The company is also considering developing IPTV and/or video-on-demand services.
P1, which operates a Wimax network ans has TD-LTE ambitions, said the deal will allow it to become Malaysia's first operator to offer 4G and fiber simultaneously.
Telekom Malaysia has also signed wholesale deals for its HSBB with Celcom and Maxis since launching the network last year.
The company pledged open access to the network under the public-private partnership deal to build the network it had reached in 2008.
The operator plans to expand the network to cover around 1.3 million homes by the end of 2012. Its own retail HSBB offering, UniFi, currently has around 170,000 subscribers.
