Pacnet has appointed a new CEO for its Chinese joint venture Pacnet Business Solutions (PBS).

IT industry veteran Michael Xu has taken the role effective immediately. Xu joins Pacnet from GDS Services, where he was senior vice president of sales. Prior to this he spent seven years at Dell, where he held roles including general manager for China medium business.

During his career, Xu has also worked for global technology companies including Sun Microsystems, Oracle and Motorola.

Pacnet CEO Carl Grivner said the appointment builds on Pacnet becoming the first non-mainland Chinese company licensed to provide IP-VPN services and data center network services in the market.

“Michael will play a pivotal role in transforming the company into an even stronger data center and network operator in China to capitalize on our momentum within the market and to exponentially grow our business,” he said.

“I am very pleased to have been appointed as the CEO of Pacnet Business Solutions and am excited about the significant growth potential which exists for us in China,” Xu commented. “PBS already has an extensive domestic footprint in telecom as well as Tier III data center infrastructure and operations in major China markets which we will continue to strengthen.”

PBS was established in 2008 as a 50:50 joint venture with corporate communications services provider Zhong Ren Telecom.
